Peppers
Product Description
Summer brings an assortment of chile peppers grown in our local Santa Maria and Los Alamos Valleys’. Varieties may include; Jalapeno, Serrano, Anaheim, Pasilla (Poblano) or Yellow Wax. Chile peppers are mostly available during the late summer to early Fall from our local fields, then beginning in the late Fall through Spring peppers are brought in (limited quantities) from our growers in the Baja region of Mexico.
Chile peppers are a mainstay in Latin cuisine and for some Asian entrees. Baby Artichokes
Artichokes
Product Description
Elegance Distributors features baby purple artichokes. The Fiesole variety is a very deep wine red baby artichoke with a square or blocky shape. It is tender and has a "nutty" flavor. This artichoke is related to the famous Violettos of Southern France and Tuscany. The name comes from a small town north of Florence. It is best used steamed or boiled (it keeps its color!) or trimmed and sautéed. Baby purple artichokes make a delicious appetizer when simmered in olive oil at a low temperature, then fried at a higher heat so their leaves open. Sprinkle them with fresh lemon juice and serve. Another way to enjoy baby purple artichokes is to slice them in half, then braise them in olive oil, white wine, garlic and herbs. Some also use these lovely artichokes ornamentally. Peak season is spring through summer, lighter offerings through the Fall and Winter seasons.
