Facts about Wild leeks
Wild leeks are also known as
ramps and are categorized as wild onions. They are delicious spring delicacies
for its unique flavor, which is somewhat strong and similar to scallions. April
to May is considered Ramp season. Leeks contain protein, vitamin C, and sulphur,
and are low in sodium. As other vegetables, the greener part of the leaves are
more nutritious than the more whiter and tender parts. Wild leeks can be used
in salads, soups, stew and even stir fries, just like an onion. Furthermore, leeks
have a medicinal benefit to treat colds, and high blood pressure. |
